One more thing (and this could be important), I’ve re-installed Windows 10 from scratch, and the problem got fixed. It would be just speculation I can make at this point and it’ll not help you get your exact answer.Īlso, I was not able to compare the performance between SMB 1 and SMB 2, so I’m sorry but I can’t directly answer your question. I guess you’ll have to make more research on this topic on the web. For example, it could be slower to discover it on your network, or perform network based operations, but I/O performance could stay the same. Regarding the performance expectations, I guess I’ve read somewhere that using SMB 1 could make some stuff work slower, though I can’t remember “what” stuff. I’m not an expert on SMB, but I assume that yes 1, 2 and 3 should refer to SMB version as you mentioned - I can’t see anything else that it could be referring to. Note: The default setting when performing a “System Only” restore on WD My Cloud EX2100 at firmware 2.10.310 seems to be “SMB 2”. Please ensure that enough time passes after changing the SMB setting on the NAS, as it could take up to a minute on my environment for the change to become effective.
While experimenting with the NAS, I found out that I was able to make it appear in “Network”, only when I choosed “SMB 1” on my NAS (Settings > Network > Max SMB Protocol), and I’ve tried several other times to ensure that the results were consistent. I was able to connect to it by typing in the hostname (\\WDM圜loudEX2100) or its IP (\\.x) into the “Run” app and when I did this, even the address bar in “File Explorer” showed that it was in “Network” (it showed “Network > WDM圜loudEx2100” or “Network > .x” depending on the particular access method, to be exact), but when I backed-up one directory from this view, (back into “Network”) it was still missing (there were no computers showing up with a name such as “WDM圜loudEX2100” or “.x”).
